lots of fun for the money

I have had this Rokinon lens for a couple years now and have had a lot of fun with it. You won't get National Geographic quality images from it but it does produce usable images from a great distance, especially with the 2X teleconverter. It does require good lighting and/or the use of high ISO. Since it doesn't have any image stabilization, fast shutter speeds will also help reduce any blur from shaking. It is very lightweight and can be used handheld for long periods. However,it works much better with a monopod or tripod. I made my own lens hood from an old plastic container and some camo duct tape that was quite serviceable and helped reduce lens flare. I now have the Canon 500mm F4 II supertelephoto lens plus teleconverters which gives me the same range as the Rokinon with far superior image quality. Yet, I don't regret having purchased the Rokinon as it gave me lots of practice with long range shooting and yielded very good results for the price. I'll be passing it along to my kids so they too can enjoy it.Make sure you get the f6.3 version, the 2X teleconverter, and the proper T-mount adapter for your camera. The stedi-stock shoulder brace kit is a little superfluous.

This isn't a $75,000 Nikor lens, it's $200 for pete's sake...it's manual focus and you'd better be using it with a good solid tripod. The images aren't award winning, but it's a hoot to use and still got us some great shots. I'm planning on using it for rare bird shots in Hawaii Volcanos National Park...just keep in mind that it needs lots of light, or long exposures. The shots we took of the moon turned out pretty nicely, and some shots we took of parasailers were acceptable. So keep it in perspective, this is a hobby lens and would allow you to get some shots you would normally never be able to get without a second mortgage on your home.
