Kenko AF 1.5x Super High Quality Teleplus converter also has genuine Gated Array IC and is compact for light weight and easy handling. Full AF is capable with lenses having a maximum aperture of F/4.5 or brighter. (Manual focusing will be required with lenses of smaller aperture.)Placed between the camera body and lens, a teleconverter contains a set of optics that will effectively increase the focal length of a lens by a specific amount. Common magnifications are 1.4 times and 2 times, but the Kenko teleplus PRO 300 AF converter has a 3x magnification. For example, using a 2 times (2x) teleconverter will increase the focal of 300mm lens to 600mm. The Teleplus PRO 300 converters are made with high quality multi-coated optical glass supplied by Hoya Corporation, the worlds largest manufacturer of optical glass. These glass elements are designed to match the optical quality of the prime lens (even at the edges) and telephoto zoom lenses. The optical design of the elements and light path is wide enough not to cause vignetting. The PRO 300 family is designed specifically to be used with prime telephoto lenses of 100mm or above, such as, a 300 mm f/2.8 lens, and work best with telephoto lenses of 200mm to 500mm. The PRO 300 can be used with telephoto zoom lenses as well as prime lenses. However, Kenko does not recommend them for zoom lenses that have a range starting under 50 mm.

Good 2x magnication

This gives excellent image quality. Your viewfinder will look dark because of loss of 2 stops. Works quite well when you have good light conditions. I use it quite often with my Sigma 150mm. You may need to go into manual mode if light is not enough and the AF doesn't work. It multiplies the focal length of the master lens by 2 times. It offers full AF and metering capabilities as it has electronics and interfaces between the lens and camera and also taking care of the reduction in light. The mount is all metal. However the quality of the covering caps are not as good like Nikon orignal lens/body caps. It certainly does its job of avoiding carrying expensive high-tele end lenses. I am satisfied with this product

I bought this to go between my D80 & my Nikon 80-200 AF 2.8D when I need extra focal length. Other than quickly confirming that AF & metering works with all my lenses, I have not used it with any other camera/lens combination. There is a noticeable loss of sharpness when using the converter, but that's compared to a very sharp lens without the converter. Overall, image quality is satisfactory.If your reason for choosing this over the Nikon converter is autofocus on AF lenses, then you should be aware that autofocus only works well in very bright lighting. Autofocus does not work in low light, such as poorly lit rooms and twilight hours. The camera tries but focus lock is never achieved. It works slowly and inaccurately in moderate light, such as overcast days. Focus locks, but it's often not sharp. It's possible that my camera is to blame, but you should expect to focus manually much of the time with this converter. However, if your use will be mostly outdoors in sunny weather then the autofocus will likely meet your needs.Due to the price difference and lack of autofocus with AF lenses, I didn't investigate the Nikon converter. Had I known that I would focus manually on 80% of my shots with the Kenko converter, I would have tried the Nikon to see how the picture quality compared.One additional note: While I only tried a couple test shots and would not recommend counting on this, in bright light this converter worked with my 18-135 f3.5-5.6 kit lens & my 70-300 f4-5.6 VR lens (for a 35mm equivalent of 900mm f11). Nikon's guidance that autofocus and metering only work at effective apertures of 5.6 or larger appears not to be set in stone. I plan to play more with the 300mm. I'll try to remember to post how it works out.Update: I recently did some experimentation with the 70-300. Metering worked fine, but the autofocus was consistently off just a little bit. I did get some nice shots using manual focus though. I wouldn't buy this for use with an f5.6 lens, but that doesn't mean you can't get some use out of it if it's in your bag for other reasons.

Works as expected

I am using this with a Nikon 80-200 F2.8 AF-D which makes the lens a 160-400 F5.6 and I have no complaints. I wish Nikon had and auto focus teleconverter that fits this lens, but all their new teleconverters are for AF-S lenses.
