For the price, a fun and useful lens

I use this lens on the end of standard zoom and wide-angle lenses on my Rebel XSi and AE-1 (it came with 58mm and 55mm adapter rings), and for its price I don't see how it can be beat. With a Super Wide you know you're going to get barrel distortion, so I like to put it at its widest and get real close to a subject, even focusing on things just an inch or two from the lens.One thing of note is that is doesn't go well stacked on a telephoto lens, but that's not unexpected considering the contrasting purposes of each. I'm not taking a star off a product because it doesn't do what it's not designed to do.There are a lot of creative things you can do with this lens, and for such a small price compared to high-end fish-eye lenses, I'm definitely glad to have it in my bag.

I wanted a wide angle lens to add to my "creative" arsenal and get me to see things differently...this lens was so inexpensive compared to true fisheye lenses...and I have just made some test shots with this lens and all I can say is that I am going to have a lot of fun with it. And so far as just the "macro" part does... I really can't believe how close you can get to an object...very cool.

Think about what you are buying

First off, this is not a lens. It works like a filter and screws onto the end of a camera lens. If your using a DSLR, they do send an adapter ring for a 58mm lens and I believe a 48mm one but not sure. I didn't really look at it since I wont be using it. I think that it is most likely made for a video camera and works as a lens for that which is why it is advertised as a lens. I expected it to be more of a filter so I had no problems or complaints.It works great for the price. Starting out as a hobby, I don't have the budget to spend money on actual macro or fish-eye lenses. I try to keep that in mind when ordering things like this. It may not be the best quality but it works great for what I wanted it for. For the most part there is not much of a noticeable quality loss in the picture. If your planning on printing out huge prints, I'd say you need an actual lens. For everyday use or even 8x10 prints from my Canon T2i, this works better than I had expected. Unless you plan on doing professional fish-eye or macro photography, $25 is a whole lot better than the several hundred an actual lens can cost.I use it mostly for macro. The macro converter doesn't seem to degrade the quality any noticeable amount, however the fish eye does slightly around the edges. Anything on the sides get a little fuzzy but for the most part the general picture looks pretty good. I have not tried to see if using a smaller aperture would help although I think it might (The pictures I've tried have been about f6 or so, will have to try something like an f22). I use these filters on my 28-55mm Canon lens. When zoomed at 28mm, the picture is a circle (most likely due to the filter size being smaller than my lens size). Sometimes this wanted but if not I usually zoom the lens to about 50mm to "crop" the image. Since it is using zoom, your not loosing any picture quality by doing this but you do loose some of the fish-eye effect. It doesn't affect macro though and can still focus very close.It came with a little bag to put it in. It makes it easy to carry it with you or put it in a camera bag. Its very easy to use since it just goes on the end of the lens. Fun to play around with and for the most part, I feel like I added two lenses to my bag for for only $25 and for the size of a single lens.
