Good Lens Poor Mounting be sure to use the lanyard

Not a cheap lens should have better mounting.As the only choice for adding a wide angle lens to the Brinno TLC200 this lens works well, but the mounting is very poor. It is mounted by using an adhesive backed metal ring that adheres to the face of the TL200s standard lens. The wide angle lens has a magnetic base that is then supposed to hold onto the stick-on metal ring. The stick-on ring is small so there isn't a lot of metal/magnetic strength to hold the wide angel lens to the ring. A slight bump of just the camera body, not even the lens directly, will often cause the magnet to let go. BE SURE TO USE THE INCLUDED SAFETY LANYARD TO TIE THE LENS TO THE CAMERA so the lens will not be dropping on the floor when (not if) it comes off. The lanyard solution is also pretty poor an elastic that goes around a grove in the wide angel lens, but catches the lens most of the time. The adhesive on the stick on metal ring doesn't always hold either it came with two stick-on rings - was that an error or a sign that they don't stick on very well.Lens functionThe lens itself is well made and heavy for being so small. It is a very good wide angle, for me the only way to make the camera usable, doing construction at a light industrial building 40ft x 50 ft space the camera without a wide angle was unusable. With the wide angle lens and the camera tripod mounted in a corner or wall mounted on one side I can get lots of the work going on into the frame. Without the lens I'd get the person working directly in front of the camera and nothing else.ConsiderationIn a more gentle environment the lens mounting may not be as much an issue but even at home I've bumped the tripod and the lens drops off. Hopefully Brinno upgrades the camera to have threads for add on lenses and makes threaded lens in the future to address this one big drawback. Then the camera and lens' system would be stellar.Repurchase?Well the Brinno camera has been really durable bumped and banged into and this wide angle lens has survived as well. So I would look at alternatives before repurchasing to see if someone else has the same price/performance with a better mounting for a wide angle lens. But I might end up buying another Brinno for the same reason I bought this one price, camera features and availability of a wide lens.

Works, but had drawbacks

This makes a big improvement to the camera's field of view, but its magnetic attachment system is weak, at best. Oh, the magnet works, but the tape that holds the ring of thin metal to your camera is a failure point. Even if the glue holds, the attraction isn't so strong that you can't easily knock the lens off though.Also, as any after-market clip-on lens will do, using this diminishes the quality of the video and decreases the cameras low-light sensitivity. Not horribly, but definitely noticeable.If you're desperate for a wider view, it's OK. But I wouldn't buy it again, and if it hadn't been dented when it fell off one of several times, I'd return it.

A must have for the Brinnos!

This lens really improves the field of view on these cameras, highly recommended! The lens seems to be made well, all metal and glass construction. It comes with lens caps for both ends, a strap, and a felt carry bag. It also comes with two adhesive backed metal rings. You attach one ring to the Brinno's lens and this add-on lens then magnetically snaps on and off very easily.
