As one who takes tens of thousands of sports action photos annually, I was leery about buying a non-Sony lens for the Alpha, but the price and rebate offer made this a good bet that the lens would be useful for something.It replaced the 28-70 & 75-300 Sony lenses and gave me the opportunity to use one lense instead of choosing one of the other two.I must say, I was greatly impressed. The first games, both volleyball indoors and football outdoors with flash, were spectacular. The clarity and focus was much better than the Sony lenses ever gave me. I was able to get action from the whole game, not just what was close or far away, but both at once.I really prefer this lense over the Sony lenses. That Tamron f/2.8 big telephoto is looking like my next buy. Thank you for providing me with the best lens I've had.

This lens is great for travel photography or run-and-gun type shoots. You get just about as wide as you'd ever need, and impressively close all in one lens. The zoom motion is extremely smooth for those DSLR video shooters, and the Image Stabilizer works extremely well. Auto focus is good with light. On my trip to africa I got to use a friends L glass though, and let me tell you if you can wait and save up for some L glass, DO IT. But for a low budget lens, this is a power house!I suggest pairing this with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens to give you the ability of shooting in low light. This lens is great but it is a f/3.5.

I have owned this lens for a year now, wanted to wait to give it a review until I got through all the sport seasons. This lens has really delivered. I didn't like it on my Sony a200 because, quite frankly, the lens was too good for the 200. I use it on my a700 and wow..... the extra megapixels coupled with the abilities of this lens is remarkable. I had purchased the Sony 70-200mm at a significantly higher price and was less impressed. I didn't do all my homework before purchaseing that lens and found that the Sony version did not have the seals (for dust, weather, moisture) that the Sigma has. It was a no-brainer.... the sigma is far better for the money. If you have an a200, it still is a great lens but I feel that camera can not take full advantage of the features of this lens, otherwise, get this lens, it will be the last telephoto you purchase at this range.

Very very bright lens.No focusing issues.Very heavy but worth it.Case has no belt loop.Looks good on the camera.I feel I spent my money wisely.Update: I love this lens, it's fast accurate and most of all, tack sharp. Bonus is it takes the Sigma ring flash so my macros are now much better.

I am very pleased with this lens. Coupled with the a55 I have been able to capture some great shot both indoor and out. The f/2.8 has made a significant difference in my ability to capture indoor, fast motion photos. The lens focuses quickly, silently and if very consistent. It works extremely well in video mode as well. Due to the lens size, it is difficult to hold mounted to the a55. Maybe quality comes with a price. The tripod mount is extremely well designed and easy to use. I would recommend this lens to anyone especially for those shooting with a camera that has stabilization internal to the camera. Purchasing from Amazon was quick and easy. It arrived ahead of schedule.

very nice lens for what it costs. I have it paired with a Sony digital camera and it give a great fish-eye shot with the perspective I was looking for. This is a great way to increase your photographic tool kit without breaking your bank. It seems to be very well made without plastic componets, it is all aircraft type aluminum. The threads are well cut. Flair is minimal considering that this is a pretty extreme lens and should be discounted for all practicle purposes. I have used it extensively for close-ups and panoramas with excellent results. When using a flash be aware that you will need fill lighting to keep the lens shadow out of the picture, with the adapter tube(s)/rings it sticks out a bit past the built-in flash. It is a large diameter as well and looks a tad intimidating to the uninitiated. A great product overall, at a very good price point.
